Tray redo
A hand-me-down tray has a new life. After a coat of white paint and a mod podge of some wrapping paper from a gift I received, this tray is good as new!
Trash to Treasure
My parents brought me a few old chairs. A coat of white spray paint and some leftover velvet fabric does wonders. Voila!

Horizontal Stripes
As my belly began to grow, I decided to embrace the changes, and my favorite motif. Who said horizontal stripes can't be flattering?

Louisiana made, Louisiana proud
It's been ten years since I have lived in New Orleans, but it will always feel like home. Memories of being on the water as a child will never leave me. Riding in the boat, breathing the fresh air, feeling the wind in my hair...memories of a simpler time. Now, I see that place through different eyes and with a deeper appreciation.

Southwestern Corn Soup
1/4 onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, chopped
1 can chopped tomatoes and pepper blend, drained (Mexican style)
2 cans of cream style corn
1 can of chicken stock
Flour
Tortilla corn chips
Cumin
Chili powder
Salt and pepper
Saute onion and garlic in canola oil over medium high heat until golden. Lower heat to medium low, add can of tomatoes and stir. Add cans of creamed corn and stock. Bring to a simmer. With a ladle, carefully remove 1/4 cup of broth into a small bowl. Add flour and stir with a fork until thick paste is formed. Add paste back to the soup mixture to thicken. Mix in two handfuls of crushed tortilla corn chips. Bring soup back to a simmer, 5-10 minutes. Season with cumin, chili powder, salt and pepper. Turn off heat and let cool, 5-10 minutes. With a stick blender, puree soup mixture. Serve with crema Mexicana, queso and tortilla chips.

Out of Sight, Out of Mind
Today's organization inspiration...makeup.
My makeup is the last thing I do before I run out of the door in the morning.
The more visible it all is, the better (and quicker I get out of the house).
And if I can't see it, I won't use it (what a waste).
In my vanity, I have everything laid out in the order of application.

Maybe old dogs can learn new tricks...
My husband and I decided that we would make a list of things that we want to accomplish this year. A few things we decided on were:
learn to play an instrument
learn a new language
start running
learn to draw
We are on our way! My parents (my father is a brilliant musician) bought us both instruments; for my husband a guitar, for me a ukulele. While we have not mastered them, I am proud to say we have learned a number of chords and a few songs. And it's so fun! As an art student, my husband has quickly learned to draw quite well. This is my first attempt. I have painted random, abstract things before, but never have I tried to "draw". I can't take credit for the originality, as I saw this on a piece of stationery.
